The 1st Annual CCChampions Carnival
On May 4th, 2012 we had our first CCChampions Carnival at Hasbro Children’s Hospital to kickoff our Providence chapter!
With over 80 volunteers and contributions from over 200 local community members, we included over 100 kids in the hospital in fun activities such as Disney a cappella, Jockapella, and meeting Paws (the Pawtucket Red Sox mascot)!
Feel free to share your experience with us and stay posted for pictures, stories, and other exciting updates!
Tell us about your favorite CCChampions Carnival moment!

My favorite experience of the CCC Carnival was in the primary care center… Disney a cappella had just started their first concert in the hospital, opening with an amazing rendition of “The Circle of Life,” a song from our generation of Disney. But then the group starting singing a song from “The Princess and the Frog,” and one little girl’s face just lit up. She ran to the front row and started to sing along before her mom reluctantly told her it was time to leave. It was so adorable, and great to see how the kids were really enjoying themselves!!!
Just looking at all the pictures, I can’t help but smile. I remember how happy the kids would get whenever we took interest in what they were doing. Especially those friendship bracelets…they really did appreciate us being friends!
At one point we were all playing with bubbles, and a 10 year old boy was telling me all about how he could blow “double bubbles” and “triple bubbles.” He was so proud!
When I asked him what a bubble with 4 would be…he thought about it for a second…and then told me…
“DOUBLE HUBBLE BUBBLE!”
Watching as Jockapella’s tunes brightened the faces of not only the patients but their families as well.
My favorite memory from the CCC carnival was painting flowers on the kids hands, drawing pictures together and making best friendship bracelets.
My favourite CCC moment was when my face painter partner and I went into a patient’s room to face paint. She was a little shy at first, but as soon as we introduced ourselves and the “masterpiece” face paint we had already done on ourselves, her face lit up and we ended up talking to her and her grandparents for 45 min. She was adorable and hilarious, and also incredibly positive about her circumstance. During our visit, Jockapella was going around to rooms to sing for the patients and ended up coming into our room! We got to experience her excitement as they played on of her favourite T-Swift songs and enjoy a great show. The whole day was incredible, I can’t wait until next year!
My favorite moment from CCCarnival was when the 5 year old boy I was playing with left the room for a second with his grandmother, and when they came back, she let us know that he had told her that we were all his fans! I thought it was great that he knew how many people were excited for him, and it was obvious that he was enjoying himself. He also was telling us how excited he was that we were there, since he had been at the hospital for three days and had been extremely bored! You could really tell that the carnival brightened his day, and hopefully the memories of it brightened the rest of his stay at the hospital.
